Around twenty years ago, the butcher Hans Schwarz from Andau dared to do something unusual. He turned butchery into a hobby, and the hobby he had hitherto pursued, viticulture, into a profession. It was certainly the right decision. As the warmest location in Austria, Andau offers superb conditions for producing great wines. Coupled with Hans's often unorthodox methods, the Schwarz wines quickly achieved a cult following. He relied on the autochthonous Zweigelt, to produce his "Schwarz-Rot" that continues to win praise from wine lovers, journalists, connoisseurs and restaurateurs.
